Hi Sue. I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease approx 12 mos ago. For the past 6 mos, I’ve had a total cessation of mensies. And thus far, have not been aware of any gynecological disorders.
Definetly a symptom of Graves. I was fine at the age of 38 diagnosed with
graves disease had a lot of problems with the eyes and thyroid itself.
Had one period since that was over 2 years ago. Now the Dr’s tell me I am
in menopause. So Graves does cause a problem with most women. I was told
that sometimes it brings on an early menopause and it did for me.I came across
Daniel Dumesic, M.D., chairman of reproductive endocrinology at
the Mayo Clinic, says that a healthy menstrual cycle can range from
22 to 34 days; the first day of your last period marks the beginning of
your current cycle. Alert your doctor of changes occurring in your
cycle. For some problems, blood tests can determine the causes. In
polycystic ovary syndrome the ovaries produce too many hormones,
not enough progesterone, and too much testosterone, which increases
the risk for uterine cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Thyroid
disease (hypothyroidism, too little thyroid hormone and
hyperthyroidism, an overactive gland) can cause periods to be
extremely heavy or light. Prolactin overload, a too-high level of the
hormone prolactin, can cease ovulation. When periods suddenly
disappear, first rule out pregnancy, oral contraceptives that you have
been taking but recently suspended, smoking, stress, and too little
food and too much exercise. Light bleeding during ovulation is no
cause for alarm, but bleeding at other times of the month, especially
after sex could be signs of pregnancy, polyps or fibroid tumors. Polyps and fibroids in women cause a
higher risk for uterine cancer; doctors’ orders for Pap tests and pelvic

Well, I’ve been on the pill for 5 years now and even after being diagnosed
with Graves, usually had my periods on time and for 3-5 days. Since going off my ATDs tho
my periods have been extremely light to non-existant (last cycle had me
worried. I have a tea with certain herbs to help start the menses I took
this time around. It started, but it is light). I don’t know if the change
is natural, because of the pill (I’ve never been on it this long before) or
the changes Graves’ has made to my system.Hi.
I’m just curious about something (my doctor never really went into this with me)
Have all of your periods been ok? Stable or anything?
Mine sometimes doesn’t come at all (already had the pregnancy test) or if it does come.. it’s 2 weeks late ,
and lasts for about 3 days (I’m normally 5 to 7 days)
I’d really like to know because I had an ovarian cyst 2 years ago.. and I don’t know if it’s acting up again or not.
Or if this is just a symptom of Graves.
I’ve had Graves for 3 years.. but (hehehe) I forgot what happened to all my periods! LOL
I can’t remember at all.
I would appreciate any comment on this.

Yup! (-:I take a pill the first ten days of every cycle to keep them regular, but now – its getting a little bit on the
wierd side.Well, I see you have already gotten a lot of answers… but let me put my two cents in…. THIS IS A NORMAL THING WHEN YOU HAVE GRAVES…. I had to take 4 pg test (4 months in arow) and dissapointment always hit since we HAD been trying to get pregnant (with hubby)…. I thought it was a mental thing cause I wanted a baby soooooo bad… But all the ladies here at the board informed me that this short period with long waits was a normal thing…. One of the nice things that happens with Grave’s I guess…. shorter periods with longer time in between who would not like to always see two day periods with 6 week cycle.
GOD knows I miss it now…
Last month was 7 days and here on time on the dot…. YUCK!

Hugs and kissesSince diagnoised with Graves 2 1/2 years ago I had one period since.
I was 39 at the time. Now the doctors tell me I am in Menopause.
I heard that sometimes with Graves some women go into an early meno.
Graves has literally changed my whole hormonal system! Until then I was
always on time it. Now I am taking Climara and natural progesterone.
I had gotten the flashes and night sweats which I though was the Graves
itself because when I first started this that was one of my symptoms I
was hot all the time. This is a really weird disease!!!!!!!!!!!! -
