I’m so glad to hear you’re doing well, and congratulations on getting off the smokes! I know that’s hard because I was the worst addict ever, but have been free of that 16 years now. It was a really good thing that I quit, because if I’d still been smoking when I got TED I hate to think how bad my eyes would be now! (Even second-hand smoke is thought to contribute to worsening of eye disease.) Studies show that cigarettes are also connected to thyroid autoimmunity, so if you’re in remission staying off the cigarettes has to be good. Keep up the good work, and congratulations on the remission too!
Best wishes,
Thanks to all of you who responded to my call for help in November. I went to the doctor and got back test results that put me into hypo statis, the doctor took me off all my meds and now I am still in remission (I guess it is remission). I am still off all my meds but I am getting blood work done every 3 months now. I just decided that the cost was well worth it. I also quit smoking after 42 years and that has really helped me feel better. I filed for my social security disability and got that too. Life is really looking up for me. I have all of you to thank for that too. To all new Graves disease suffers listen to all these good people here, they know what they are talking about and will listen to you and even let you cry on their shoulders. They are great people on here.
Thank you for letting us know that we helped. It’s a job for everybody–this becomes a type of extended family–and we all like to know that we are appreciated.
Add my congratulations to the I QUIT. It is hard to say the least.
Remember what your hyper symptoms felt like, so that if they begin to return, you can call the doctor early. Heart palpitations, muscle weakness, anxity that is unexplained, severe insomnia, weight loss, diarrhea are a few to keep in mind.
Please stay around for the others that need your input.Hi everyone. Just thought that I would let all know that it’s been 2 years this month that I have been in remission. I feel pretty good. All my blood work comes back normal still……….thank goodness. Maybe I will be one of those lucky ones who does not have any more symptoms of Graves again. I am so glad that I did not have RAI, glad I stayed on the meds for several years and now in remission.
