I am new to this site and wish I would have found it when I was first diagnosed with Graves disease over a year ago. I was diagnosed with severe Graves disease over a year ago. The endo put me on Tapazole as he did not want to do the iodine treatment due to something called a "storm". My levels are normal, I’m still on the Tapazole (2.5mg daily) but over the last 3 months I have had horrible joint pain. Seems to primarily affect my hands and my knees, but I have all over pain and weakness. My primary doctor gave me darvocet for the pain and I’ve had a CPK with MB fraction non cardiac which has come back slightly elevated. Has anyone else had these problems after a year on meds? Also, what exactly is the CPK test and what could the doctor be looking for? I thought I was over the hump and on my way to being "normal" and now feel almost as bad as I did when I was first diagnosed. Also, when I get cold I can’t warm up. Everyone else in the house is in shorts and I have the heat up as high as I can and still shaking. If anyone else has had these problems, I’d love to hear how you’ve been treated.

    Thanks so much!

I had an endocrinologist who did not take my symptoms seriously and I am waiting to get into a new one. My primary doctor is running the tests trying to find the reason for the muscle pain. Can you tell me what the toxic multinodular goiter is that you have? I was told by a radiologist when I had my ultrasounds last year the left side of my thyroid was "dead" and the right was over producing.

Thanks again for the information, it’s good to know I’m not the only one with these symptoms.

CPK is Creatine phosphokinase, and is a test that if it comes back positive indicates muscle damage. "Non-cardiac" means he’s not looking for damage to your heart muscle. What’s your doctor looking for when running this test, you ask? You really would have to ask him, but you can guess that it will be related to the symptoms you’ve described to him.

It’s good that your doctor is working to find the cause of your problems. You’re wise not to stick with an endo who doesn’t take your symptoms seriously. Life is too short.

    Best wishes,
