Some symptoms are shared between hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, and it is actually possible that Graves’ has now destroyed your thyroid by itself, so you could be hypothyroid. Have you have thyroid hormone levels done lately?
Yes, after insisting on the tests because I was convinced that I went Hypothyroid. Especially after Radiation to my neck & chest area for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Chances are very high that the Radiation would kill my thyroid. My Oncologist finally ordered the tests. He called me immediately upon receiving the results and said my Graves Disease is back and that he sent the reports to my Endo. He said that I need to get my back on my ATD’s. I can’t believe this, nor can I go through this again!!!! It doesn’t make sense to me. Thanks so much for your input!
Unfortunately, remission is by definition temporary, so it would appear that you’ve come out of remission. ATDs would likely work to keep your levels stable while you are going through your other treatments, even if they don’t create a second remission. That’s probably the least impact solution for your body, since it’s going through so much!

I was diagnosed with Graves about 5 years ago. I probably had it for a very long time before being diagnosed. My uptake was so severe it was 125% in 30 SECONDS, yes, I said seconds. They thought they did something wrong in the test so they ran it again. And again, 125% in 30 seconds. Well, no wonder I was hardly functioning. My heart rate was 160 all the time! You could hear my heart pounding from several feet away. I would walk a few feet and thought I was going to die. I literally thought I was having a heart attack. I had every symptom imaginable! My very conservative doctor kept my on ATD’s for 4 years before going into remission. Well, 2 months after she told me I was in remission, I was then diagnosed with cancer. Now my Graves is back again. Although, I’m alittle confused because I have a lot of the Graves symptons, however, I have a lot of Hypothyroid symptoms. I gaining weight not losing, could be from the steriods during my chemo treatment, but I’m no longer taking it. I have cold intolerance instead of heat. I’m soooo tired all the time. Any suggestions?????????????????
