    I have never heard of this ~ even RAI is not out of the question for people who are thinking of getting pregnant. I would call your endocrinologist and ask them to speak with the radiology/oncology department you visited. The uptake/scan is done with a non-damaging isotope of radioiodine, so there should be NO risk to you or a future pregnancy.

    My doctor ordered me to get a thyroid scan and uptake. When I went to get it done, the radiology place wouldn’t do it because I would like to get pregnant at some point. They said that there isn’t enough research on the long term effects. I don’t want to do anything to put my future baby (hopefully) at risk. But, if I can’t get this done, how are they going to find out what is wrong??

    I agree. The person you talked to must not have been the normal person in charge. This procedure is routinely done on patients who plan to have babies in the future. Something is funny about this!!
