Don’t have the answers your looking for, but I’m sure someone else does.
Wanted to say hope you feel well soon.
Hot peppermint tea with honey always helps my throat. I used to not like hot tea, but it has grown on me since giving up my coffee.
OKay..I swear I will stop asking so many weird and unusual questions…lol
I have had a high fever and terrible sore throat for the past 2 days. I went to my GP today and I tested postive for the Strep Throat:(
None of my 3 boys have had it? Two are in public school. It seems that I’m getting sick all the time now:( This leads me to believe that my immune is not that strong right now.
I’m currently on 200mg pf PTU and will be until my next blood test which is not for another 4 weeks. After that, I’m going to decide about doing the RAI.
If I do the RAI, will it strenghten my immune system? I used to never get sick…now I’m sick really bad every 2-3 months? This is crazy. I’m truly desperate to feel better, even if it means RAI.
As always, any advice or input would be greatly appreciated:)
I used to be a magnet for strep throat ~ and when my kids got to be school age, I would catch it, they would not. Truly unfair! I know how you feel.
I need to word this carefully ~ having an autoimmune disease doesn’t mean our immune system can be called "weak." It is more likely that your body is run down from being hyperthyroid, you aren’t fully recovered (levels should be normal, and stable for at least a few weeks before your body even begins to heal), and that makes you more susceptible. Having RAI won’t change your current status. Once your levels normalize, and stabilize, AND you’ve had some time to heal, you’ll be stronger against diseases, no matter how you get there.
ATD’s do have the side effect of a depressed immune system. Have you had a CBC drawn lately? But you’d want this drawn after you’ve recovered from whatever illness you have.
Thanks everyone. This has been such a tough few months for me. So thankful I found this site.
Next time I go in for blood work, I’ll ask about the CBC. (Strep throat sucks) Just want to feel better and the mom I used to me
HI all,
I can honestly say that since RAI, I haven’t felt sick…. hmm made me rethink that. I had a cold and have had normal stomach illlness’ oh forget it. It is different for everyone. Because we have GD Thyroid Disease we can’t take many products that any normal person would take. Cold meds, allergy meds, and some pain relief meds. I’ve seem to have a constant sniffle, because of the tearing eyes..so I"m never sure unless I’m sneezing if its allergens, or a cold, since I still get the heat thing once in awhile., I have to determine my temperature by my lips. IF they get dried and cracked I know I’ve had a fever. You know there should be a user manual given to each of us by the time we are in highschool I figure. LOL all this googling is giving me typers cramps. LOL
I know I didnt’ help, I’m sorry. Take it one day at a time…and feel free to come over to my back yard to rant, scream, start a bonfire and burn things in effigy.. it feels great to break something or burn something.
