    Hi all.
things are going okay on the GD front. I get my labs drawn tomorrow so we’ll see where they are at. My question is, can someone please explain the edema associated with graves disease? Even as a nurse I’m having a hard time understanding it. My husband and I have noticed slight swelling in my ankles. TIA!

    Hello there,
I am not sure what causes it. I am a sufferer of regular edema, and pretibial myxedema. I am on a strong diuretic- supposedly to control one of the two-to no avail. Everytime I have to go to the ER the first thing they do is check my heart. So please take that into consideration.

Sorry, not much help. Hopefully someone will have more scientific (medical) explanation that will benefit us both..

Before I was diagnosed and treated for my GD, my feet and ankles swelled up last summer a lot. I think it’s all ties in with your heart in some way. Ever since my RAI in December, I haven’t had any swelling.

Did either of you guys get the lesions I’ve read about? I can’t find a very good description of it.

Ok guys…SO not an expert here…but from what I understand it has to do with our metabolism. Deposits of fat and proteins under the skin. I got my info from thyroidmanager.org. Part of the reason that I think that things like Lasix helps to some degree…but won’t get rid of it all. It was late at night when I looked up the info, so make sure your not tired cause it kinda read like medical textbooks. Hope this helps, and hope someone else comes behind me and corrects me if I’m wrong. Hugs Rhonda
