What you are discribing is not a Grave’s issue I believe. If you have had this problem for 20 years you really need to talk to your doctor about it. I know many of us are also hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and we feel we need to eat to keep our blood sugar up. Low blood sugar can cause nausia.

Just a thought. Talk to your endocrinologist about this and let us know what was said.

Jake: Thanks for the response. I never considered that it could be related to low blood sugar or anything else other than the GD because it started with the GD. I will check with my doctor about that though. My GD was particularly severe because I let it go for several months before I went to the doctor. I was in law school at the time and was too busy trying to get through my last year of studies, even though I knew there was something really wrong with me. I distinctly remember eating 6 bowls of cereal before leaving for school then having to eat something halfway through my first class because I was so hungry that I felt like I was going to be sick if I didn’t get some food into me immediately. Although I don’t have that feeling with the same frequency any more, when I feel hungry, I feel really, really hungry.

I developed GD approximately 20 years ago and had the radioactive iodine treatment. I have been on synthroid ever since I went hypo following the RAI. One of the symptoms that I experienced with the Graves’ was a hunger so intense that I thought I would vomit unless I ate something immediately. That one symptom continued even after the RAI. Now that I am getting older, I am really starting to pack on the pounds because I tend to over-eat as a result of the intense hunger I experience. I don’t just get hungry; I get ravenously hungry. Have any of you post-Graves’ patients experienced the same problem? Just trying to find out whether this carry-over symptom is unique to me or whether others have it too.
