Glad to hear that you are feeling better. I too am tired of this but when I think back to how far I’ve come I feel a little more tolerant, not better, but tolerant. I hope that my heart rate is dropping. It does things like 108 then a few minutes later 85. It seems to have no pattern. I just keep thinking it the little cells fighting back one way or the other:)

    Keep up the good vibes.

    Run,
I’ll just nickname you that since that is what you love to do. I’m so glad your feeling a little better. But remember…baby steps…..crawl before walk, walk before run…you get the picture. Hugs, Rhonda

P.S. where did you get a heart monitor like that one?

Well, not a lot has changed. I have felt SLIGHTLY better for the past week or so. I suffered no major side effects (sore throat, swelling, etc). I do still have some pretty hyper times when I think that I’m regressing, but also have some times when I almost feel normal. I quit the beta blocker about a week ago, I’d been taking 10mg at night and took half a pill for two nights and then got off. I’ve done an experiment, walking 3 miles every day with my heart rate monitor since I started being hyper, and I can see that my average heart rate has dropped since the rai, but not nearly enough to allow me to run yet. I have tried running and can manage a very, very slow mile with my heart rate close to max. But I know I’m not supposed to be maxxing out the old ticker until I’m no longer hyper, so I try hard not to run (it’s tough). My tremors are pretty much all gone, so there’s one good thing. And my resting heart rate is down from the high 60’s and back into the 50’s. But it was 45ish before all of this. Heck, when I go hypo maybe it will drop to the 30’s (lol, I hope not!). I sure hope the teeny dose I got was enough cause I’m pretty darn sick of this crap!

Hi and thanks for the well wishes all!

Rhonda, my monitor is actually a GPS thing I have for running- It is called a Garmin Forerunner 405 and it comes with a heart rate monitor. You can find a decent monitor without the GPS for maybe $50 at larger sporting goods stores or on the internet.

ewmb- I think of those little cells, too. And then I tell them nasty things like DIE YOU LITTLE SUMS OF BRITCHES. You are off the ATD’s again? Or trying a different brand?

Krystal- I try hard not to aggravate. Sometimes I just get so pissed off that I think I don’t care and I’m going to run anyways. Lol, that doesn’t last for long cause if I kept going fast I’d pass out. Are you still dreaming crazy stuff?

Thinking of going to Cedar Point tomorrow and I wonder if it’s okay to ride the rolleycoasters? No sense in going if I can’t ride.

    Lacie,
I am off all thryoid meds right now. The doctor’s response through his nurse was that’s fine the RAI should be working over the next three months! Call us if you need us, we’re here to help. I appreciate the help idea but right now I’d like the itching to stop. The rash has spread to my arms and is itchy itchy itchy.

Geez, that stinks about the itching! Are you any better today? I had resistant hives for several months and the only thing that would help at all was Zyrtec. And I’d paint myself pink with calamine lotion. I read on another thread about your office, that a bummer. But your heart rate was down again before??? Progress, YAY! I’m sure it just went crazy cause of your emotions and it will go back again. What a wacky ride we are on, huh? I like adventures but this is a bit much even for me.

Forgot to mention a couple other good changes- I am actually cool sometimes instead of burning hot. Was walking around the mall today and I had goose bumps I was cold- I haven’t had goose bumps in months. I actually high-fived the DH over the goose-bumps and being cold! People kinda looked at me funny when I jumped up and down and said yeehaw, I’m cold and I have goose bumps, but oh well! I can sleep with the sheet again! And my heart has quit racing when I go to bed. It’s a slow trip back but I think I’m on the right road.

    Lacie,
The itching is tolerable. I haven’t tried zyrtec. I have been taking otc generic claritin. I hope it has helped. It seems that the rash is spreading a little but I don’t think it’s taking over. My heart rate did go back down. The skies poured this afternoon with lots of thunder and lightning and I was able to sleep. It was cathartic that the earth cried and renewed itself after my bad morning. I have started using my little stationary pedals a little more. I wish I could do what you are doing. I used to walk a lot and do other things like yoga, aerobics etc.. It will take time.

    Keep feeling better.

Good deal on the heart rate, ewmb! You will get back to doing stuff again. Me, too. My patience is running thin, though. I can’t believe the whole summer is almost over and I’m still not better. When I first went to the doctor I figured whatever was wrong with me making my heart rate fly there would be an easy and fast fix. It’s been easy, just not fast. I had big plans to win my age group in the local races this year and now there is no way I can be in that kind of shape again until at least next spring. I should be happy because overall I have felt pretty okay. I’ve been able to continue working and doing most everything I did before. I just can’t run. But running was my life. Everything else revolved around it. I guess there’s a lesson for me here to be learned and I will try to take it with me when I’m better.

    Runlacie,

I think that you would be encouraged to read the Gail Devers story (Olympic Gold medalist sprinter). Just google “Gail Devers Story Graves’ Disease”. She went for 2.5 years without being properly diagnosed which really set her back, but in the end recovered to win Gold.

Hey James, thanks! Gail Devers is my hero and her story gives me hope. I actually found her website at the same time as I found this one when I googled Graves’ and running. I looked for an address for her because I wanted to write and tell her that her story gave me courage, but I was never able to find a good email or address. It appeared that her website hadn’t been updated in a few years. She had rai and came back to win gold. I won’t ever come close to that, but I will qualify for Boston- maybe next year? <img decoding=” title=”Cool” />
