I can’t say if hearing is connected to hypo in pregnancy, but I have Graves and loss of hearing. I do have a history of hearing loss on both sides of my family, – no thyroid issues though in the family history. Maybe the two are connected (especially since my hard-hearing grandma had typical Graves behavior/mentality).
I was trying to ask about the connection on different Graves boards, but apparently the majority of people don’t experience changes in hearing from thyroid problems. Tinnitus is the extent some people have.
I started to do some searching on here and ran across a site that does list something about hearing loss in someone with hypothyroid(mind you neither of our daughters are hypo), but thought that it might interest you to hear that. If you like I can send you the link(it doesn’t say as to why this is connected to this), but maybe you can find some more answers threw your doctor(if they are knowleadgable about it).
ValarieI’m wondering if anyone might have run across some information, a website, or book, or might be able to answer a question on this. I have seen on different sites that when your pregnant, your thyroid levels should be maintained in the higher upper levels of normal, and that if this isn’t done the fetus could have problems with hearing. The reason for the concern and wanting to know more is that our 3 year old daughter, seems to be having some hearing issues, and we are also concerned with one of the twins hearing(the other one already has tubes placed) as well. My levels were all over the place while pregnant with the children and the meds were adjusted, but threw out the first trimester and into the second, I was hypothyroid more than I was in the normal range(even the low normal). I know this has more to do with being hypo, but I wouldn’t be hypo if I hadn’t had the RAI, so it would still be related to Graves(atleast I think it would kinda). There is no history of any one else in our family having hearing issues. Any information would be appreciated, thanks
Another thing that is going threw my head, that has to do with this, is if I was hypothyroid, but yet passing the antibodies on to the children, would my thyroid levels still have something to do with there development? Maybe no one can answer that, as it should actually be asked to someone who does reasearch in this area.
