    Hi Elise,

I’m not sure about this ~ the pseudo-ephedrine is what we’re typically recommended to avoid, precisely because of what you say (making us even more edgy). I hope you can find a pharmacist to guide you before your flight. If the point of taking the sudafed is its decongestant, then Chlor Trimeton is a decongestant without ephedrine, and it may work just as well for your purposes. I hope everything works out well for you during the flight!

Hoping I can get some quick advice as I’m flying in the morning…

I have a severely inflamed ear drum and I went to see one of the medical clinics at a local drugstore (cvs) – the woman gave me ear drops and suggested I take sudafed along with some ear drops she prescribed for the pain. She said that the sudafed would help with the decongestion and might be able to prevent my eardrum from rupturing while I’m flying.. She was aware that I have graves/hyper, so I’m assuming she took this into account, but we never specifically talked about the issue of sudafed and graves.. I took the sudafed 2 times yesterday and I’m wondering if it’s making me a little edgy (though it’s hard to sleep b/c of the pain in my ear, so hard to know what’s causing what…)

I’m going to try to reach a pharmacist before I fly, but on the chance I don’t, is it OK to take sudafed just once more during the flight? I have rather low blood pressure, so that piece isn’t an issue, and while I’m probably still hyper (very low TSH, though other labs are all normal…) my resting heart rate is well within the normal range (around 60 or so)..

    any advice appreciated!!

    thanks,
    Elise
