This happened to me too. I was allergic to tapazole, went on ptu of 200 mg a day, got hives, lowered it to 100mg a day for now … hoping my body can warm up to. so far going good.

I wonder if the generic medications would be different effecting our bodies than the brand name kinds?? I was on generic meds.

    Hello,
I was originally on 5 mg of Tapazole day, then was increased by another 10 mg day. I have a rash all over? My periods are still spotting for over a month. I am allergic to PTU as it makes me break out in a bad rash. Thanks for all your help.

I had a rash on generic methimazole and not on the brand name. There is a difference in some of the fillers in these medications. My old posts talk about my experience.

Hi Tamara – Please check with your doctor ASAP on this. For a mild rash, some docs will have the patient continue taking the anti-thyroid meds along with an anti-histamine. For more serious cases, the meds might need to be reduced or discontinued. Your doctor is in the best position to make this call.

To add to ewmb’s comment, you might check with your pharmacy to see if they have switched from brand to generic…or if they are now using a different manufacturer.

    Best of luck!
