I’ve heard of increased liver enzymes from the ATDs (methimazole or PTU), but not from hyperthyroidism itself. I’d be interested to find out what your doctor tells you about that. The increase in testosterone is interesting ~ again, let us know what you find out. And by the way, I adore your doctor already. Anyone who gets this involved in all of your chemistry is a good find.

I know this sounds odd, but when I first saw an endo dr a 3 months back, he didn’t know what was wrong and so tested cortisol and testosterone levels, as well as the thyroid stuff, and a chem panel.

It turned out that my liver enzymes were mildly elevated and that my testosterone was sky high. Test were repeated a month or so later, with the same results. Then I switched endo docs, and the new one flipped out over the testosterone, saying it was astronomical and wanted to retest w/ a different lab; results are pending.

Anyway, he said the mildly elevated liver enzymes could be due to the hyperthyroidism; anyone else have such findings?

Hyperthyroidism increases SBGH, which can in turn, raise total testosterone, I was told, but evidently not that much, as the Dr was pretty shocked and both dr’s asked me if I ever took it, which I’ve not. Just curious if anyone else had these hormone levels elevated w/ GD. I see my Dr Tuesday, so I guess I learn more then.

I had elevated liver enzymes when I was first diagnosed. Once I started taking my medication (methimazole) my enzymes became normal again. That is very common for hyperthyroidism.

Hi,

I had increased liver enzymes when I was first diagnosed. They tested them regularly until they came back into range after several months on ATD’s.
