Hello – Unfortunately, I’m not as familiar with the system in the UK, but my suggestions would be to (1) do an Internet search for the doctor’s name and (2) find out if there is a particular organization in the UK that provides a special certification for this type of surgery. For example, in the U.S., there is an American Board of Surgery, an American Board of Otolaryngology and an American Association of Endocrine Surgeons.
Also, if you would like to search for providers, you can visit the web site for the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists at http://www.aace.com. They do offer international search options for providers, although I’m sure that the listings are not as extensive as for the U.S..
I do believe that we have other board members from overseas, so perhaps they will jump in with suggestions as well.
Hope this helps – best of luck!
Does anyone know if there is anyway I can find out about endocrinologists & thyroid surgeons in the UK online?
My daughter is likely to need either RAI or a thyroidectomy but I can’t find any information on her current endocrinologist other than the PR info from the hospital. I would like to find out how many surgeries hes done etc & also compare him to other specialists in the area. Is there a database or something of doctors that I could look at? I just want to make sure she has the best surgeon / doctor. I know I could, & will, ask him about his experience next time I see him but I’d like an unbiased opinion too.
Also, maybe someone on here can recommend an endocrinologist &/or surgeon in the North East of England??Thanks, Kimberley.
I’ve tried the internet search but the only info we can get on Cat’s endo is from the hospital trust he works for and only tells us were he had his training which doesn’t help. It’s at the point where we would like to get a second opinion as we are constantly been told ‘we’ll do nothing for now, just wait & see what happens’. Which, a you can imagine is very frustrating when she is suffereing from all the symptoms of Graves except that her blood work is ‘within the normal reference range’.
I’ll check out the link you gave & see if I can find anything there.
Thanks again.
