After a long 9 months since RAI I’m finally regulated on 125 mcg of synthroid. My last lab work was a TSH of 3.3. Since my t4 was high (still within range) my doctor suggested staying at that dosage and seeing if the TSH comes down even more.

My question is when did everyone feel 100% after being regulated? I still feel like I’m not completely back to myself. I feel 85-90% and a lot of the other issues have gone away (anxiety, extreme fatigue, mental concentration issues etc.) but I still feel off at times and don’t feel like all of my energy is back yet. My doctor told me that I can work out hard and exercise but sometimes I just don’t have the energy.

So basically I’m just trying to get some feedback on when everyone started to feel better once they were regulated. Does it take time since the body has been up and down so much? How long on avg? Will it get better or is my old 85-90% my new 100%, meaning that I will never feel as energized and motivated as I did before?

I’m feeling amazing now compared to when I was diagnosed with Graves. This last year has been very difficult but I feel 100 times better than I did a year ago.

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Hi basebplyr6,
I know you are looking for feedback from other’s who have walked in your shoes, I am not quite there yet, but I do share your concern. I personally don’t expect to get back to the energy I felt at the pre-diagnosed "ignorance is bliss" state. Because now I know that kind of energy came with a price. Therefore I also await the replies of those that have been there.

My GP told me she felt an "average" of nine months after getting regulated was the time it took folks to feel pretty normal again. That is, at least in part, because it takes the various body parts time to heal from too much thyroid hormone. Sometimes, we expect too much of ourselves, too soon, and that can be discouraging. When I started working out again, I had very little strength in my muscles, and I needed to work up slowly to any semblance of "normal" exercise. So, from that standpoint, it may have taken even a bit longer. Also, we tend to "blame" thyroid issues on anything that feels "off" for a while, forgetting that before we became ill we got tired, cranky, (fill in the blank), too. We forget what true normal — which had ups and downs of its own — felt like.

I’m glad to hear you are feeling better.
