Hello All: I am 12 years post RAI therapy, I am 40 years old–my problem(lately) is that I have been having difficulties articulating my thoughts..basically word finding troubles. I used to have a good vocabulary but now I am having more and more problems formulating an intelligent sentence…it’s almost like hiiting "writers block" in mid sentence…so frustrating. Just wondering if this is par for the course…my labs are all O.K. Any thoughts? Treatments? I just started to take Ginko in an attempt to improve brain function.

I would think that you need to get a thorough physical, and discuss the situation with your doctor. There might be thyroid level issues associated with your problem, but it’s also highly likely that something else is going on. We tend to blame the Graves for everything that happens to us in life, but it isn’t necessarily so. You owe it to yourself to do a thorough investigation.

    Wishing you good luck, too.

P.S. If you start taking any supplements, like ginko, know that it is possible for them to thin your blood. I’m fairly certain that a doctor told me ginko could do that. Most supplements have not be demonstrated to have any effectiveness for the issues for which people take them, but if a supplement causes metabolic changes in cell function (for example, if ginko improved neural function) then, by definition, they are DRUGS, and there will likely be adverse effects as well as the desired ones.

I’ve heard of other Graves’ patients complain of this…and I’ve had it happen occasionally myself. I can’t come up with a common word…or I end up using the wrong word. Hard to say if it’s the Graves’ or just the fact that I’m getting older. <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> However, if this is seriously impacting your life, I agree with Bobbi that a physical would be a good idea just to rule out any other possible causes.
