I have not heard of kidney infections following RAI, so I suspect that what you have experienced is a coincidence. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Agree with Bobbi. Probably a coincidence. You can check with your regular doc about this, but I am sure they are unrelated. Be sure to take the full course of cipro, even though you feel better after you have begun the medication.

Hi – I wondered if anyone else has experienced a kidney infection after radioactive iodine. I had RAI on 11/30. Then 12/10, I began experiencing severe kidney pain. At first I thought it was a kidney stone (although I have never had one so did not know what to expect for that sort of thing). I had the pain again on 12/13 in the evening, and then on 12/15 in the morning and evening, and then 12/16 in the morning. I went to urgent care on the night of the 16th and they then put me on Cipro to help clear up a kidney infection.

I have read that diabetes can cause kidney infections in men. Since the thyroid is also in the Endocrine system, I thought the changing of levels might play a role in causing kidney infections. Has anyone else had this happen as well?

    John
