Some folks get something called a plug inserted into the tear ducts to try to moderate the problem of excessive tearing. I don’t know how they work because I never went to that point. But you could try running a search of posts on the board, or in the archives, to see what other folks have said about the issue. I don’t think that would help, however, with the light sensitivity that we get.

This was the actual topic I wanted to post about for several months.

I have GED, more severely in the right eye. It is a moderate case, according to the doctor. I am being followed by an ophtalmologist from the Graves Eye Unit at the Jules Stein Eye Institute in LA. I am on 2.5 mg prednisone daily having ben titrated down from the original 40mg. However, the eye tears and tears and tears, sometimes all day.

Having attended the San Diego conference, I took home many good hints. I changed from Refresh Plus drops to Celluvisc with refresh PM at night. I ice several times a day when I am home. I always wear dark glasses and a visor outside and have now gotten gray tinted glasses for inside since white walls, flourescent lights and even sunlight make me quite miserable.

Is there anything else I can try? I am taking classes and it is so difficult to foucs my eyes without making them constantly tear which leads to double and triple vision. I have even blacked out the bad eye with something my wonderful optometrist created, but it does not work in the classroom beause my eyes get tired after an hour. The teachers are considerate and if others in the class do not object, he turns off the flourescent lights, but that only gets me so far.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

a little off the subject however I have the same issues, has anyone else noticed that the tears streaming down the cheeks leave a crusty trail on the cheek and that they smell a little foul? I go to the neuro Optho for a follow up tomorrow but I just hate the smell and wanted to know if anyone else noticed this.
