Hi Joni – Glad that you found us!

I haven’t heard of steroids being used specifically to alleviate Double Vision — I usually hear about it being used to reduce eye inflammation, particularly if the optic nerve is being compressed. Hopefully, someone who has more experience with this will chime in. In the meantime, if you are feeling some relief, that’s the important thing!

    Take care!

Hi Joni~ unfortunately, I am a PRO at TED! Been there, done all if it! Including Solu-Medrol IV. Tonight I don’t have time to write a lengthy response, and tomorrow is pretty crowded, too! But I will write back. In the meantime, you can put my name in the search engine, see what I have written along the way. It may not address all your thoughts, though.

I had a wonderful response when I had the steroid. DV went away. But it came back. As you know, and Kimberly said, it is an anti-inflammatory. I would think that it does not reverse the fibrosis that is occurring with the eye muscles, but it is possible during the active phase. That is when I had all my steroids, for I also had optic neuropathy, so they definitely relieved the pressure on my optic nerve. I am EXTREMELY GLAD that you are seeing a neuro-ophth doc. Along with that doc I was followed by a strabismus doc (pediatric eye surgeon who "did" adults with Graves’. I did have strabismus surgery, and that really did help my DV and make life worth living. Much improved. But the wait until the cold phase, or inactive phase, can take FOREVER!

    Hi.
I was diagnosed in May of last year with GD and had RAI done in August. Everything seemed to be as well as can be expected until October when I started losing my hair which has now grown back and then my eyes really started acting up. Around the first of December I noticed DV when looking up and sideways. I went to my neuro-opth. and in January we started an IV Infusion of 500 mg Solu-medrol. The treatments are every 2 weeks for a total of 6 treatments. I have completed 4 now and have noticed my eyes move easier now and are not so tight. I still have DV but it doesn’t seem to be quite as bad. Rhe dryness is still a pain. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this and if they had good results.

I can’t tell you how happy I am to have found this website. I don’t feel all alone in this anymore and I’ve learned so much from everyone’s experiences.

    Joni

I will definately check out your posts. It’s all so overwhelming and I really have not reached a point of understanding though I am trying. Thanks.
