It will be a week Monday that I stopped the methimazole. I am feeling a bit better. I slept through the night last night 5hrs! I haven’t done that in months. I was able to do a few loads of laundry yesterday and a sinkful of dishes…..I was happy!! Who gets excited about housework?!?! After I went to the doctor appointment I had I even went out for a light lunch. I haven’t been wanting and/or able to leave my house for a few months. I spent the evening snacking and playing board games with my daughter and son. Was a good day! Today, however, I am feeling a bit blue. Not too hungry and I am a bit tired. I was hoping yesterday was the start of big things!! LOL!!
I have a question for those of you that loss your appetite while dealing with GD or Hashitoxicosis. How long after things settled down did you get your appetite back? How about your energy? I was treating only with ATDs so I know that how we deal with this is going to vary.
Everything that I have read has been so emotional, inspiring, and hopeful. It is nice to have others to share this ride with. My family is hugely supportive but they can’t relate to the things my body and mind have been and will go through. The ones that I know are paying for the price for my illness is my children. I am not the mommy they had just 4 short months ago. It makes me sad and I hurt for them. But, in all of this I find that I spend less time running the roads and more time here at home. Playing XBOX, board games, and watching movies with my kids and husband. Too bad it took thyroid troubles to get me to slow down. I will take heed.

Hello – Every patient is a little different. I’ve been on anti-thyroid drugs for about 3 1/2 years…and I started feeling better about 10 weeks after I started on the methimazole.

I can’t comment on the appetite issue, as I have never, ever lost my appetite. <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> It might be worth checking with your general practitioner if things don’t go back to normal soon.

    Best of luck!
