On June 1st, Michaela Cui and a team of riders will embark on a unique journey: a 3,000-mile bike trek to raise funds and awareness for Graves’ Disease! The team will kick off the ride in Anchorage, AK and will conclude 45 days later in San Francisco, CA.

Michaela, who graduates this May from the University of Colorado at Boulder, is a Graves’ patient herself – and a true inspiration to those of us who have battled this condition!

Visit the “Greater Than Graves’” web site to read Michaela’s blog, follow her progress, or donate to this amazing project:

Update: Today is the big day – the first leg of the “Greater Than Graves’” 3,000-Mile Bike Ride for Charity! The team will be traveling 75 miles from Anchorage, AK to Willow AK.

Michaela started off with a sore throat scare, which required a quick doctor’s visit. (Those of us who are on Anti-Thyroid Drugs can relate.) Fortunately, everything checked out OK.

To follow the riders in real time, read the team’s daily blog posts, or to donate to this project, visit http://www.greaterthangraves.com.

I’m not sure what the proper “good luck” phrase is for bike riders, so I’ll just say, “Bon Voyage!”

The “Greater Than Graves’” team made the news this week in Fairbanks, AK!

The link below is to highlights from the entire news cast – there is a quick teaser at the beginning for the GTG ride, and then the main story starts at the 7:31 mark. A special shout-out to Michaela’s mom for “roughing it” for a great cause! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

The team has some amazing photos and stories posted from the last few days of their journey, including a close encounter with a 600-pound grizzly bear! (Supposedly just a "baby" by Alaska standards… <img decoding=” title=”Wink” /> )

Victory!!! The “Greater Than Graves’” team completed their 3,200-mile journey to raise awareness and funds for the Foundation by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on Wednesday, 7/20.
