Hi, I am currently considering a second surgery one my left upper eyelid. I am having a very challenging time finding information on how the outcomes are for people. If you have any suggestions on exploring the complications, pros and cons of a second eyelid surgery, let me know. I am also trying to explore the REAL outcomes of palatal grafts to lower eyelids. The surgeons simply say "you need both of these procedures." and that is pretty much what I am told.
From my own experience, which might be a bit biased today, because of what I said above, plus being an RN for many years, I have questions about scar formation, etc. But I REALLY do not know a thing. I suggest you ask your doctor what could go wrong, as well as lowering your eye 1mm. Then tell me! (:
ShirleyHi,
I am 31 years old and I was diagnosed with TED about three years ago. I was lucky enough to find an amazing oculoplastic surgeon who did an orbital decompression and eyelid surgery (to lower my upper lid) on my affected eye. I went to my post-op appointment and the doctor said he could further lower the lid to improve the symmetry in my eye (we’re talking 1 mm).
I’m pretty comfortable with the way I look. It is only once in a while at the end of a long day or when I’m stressed/tired that I notice an asymmetry. I’m definitely grateful because I remember a time when I felt self-conscious and could hardly look people in the eye. I feel the two surgeries alone made a 90% improvement in my appearance and confidence. Should I go ahead with a third surgery and risk complications or should I leave well enough alone and count my blessings? I have heard of some people having as many as thirteen surgeries.
I would be grateful for any kind of feedback. I’m kind of struggling with this one and wonder if anyone has ever regretted doing a second eyelid surgery on the same eyelid. Thank you so much!

P.S. I had my orbital decompression surgery about a year ago and still have slight pain and swelling in that area. Is that normal? Thanks! -
