As I said in a previous post, I was off my medicine for three weeks to see how my thyroid would react off the methimazole. I’ve been back on it for about two weeks and then yesterday I had teh weirdest thing happen. I was doing houseowrk and all of the sudden my whole body felt like I had pins and needles, my jaw was stiff I couldn’t bend my fingers and it was hard to walk, it was like the pins and needles made my body numb. To matters worse I was alone with my daughter (she’s 2) and my husband works an hour away. Long story short I made it to the er and had all kinds of tests run everything was fine. The er doctor told me this was a reation to the methimazole. They kept me for observation, and when they sent me home they told me to lower my dose from 20mg to 5 mg until I could see the endo. I have an appointment this afternoon but I still have pins and needles in my arms and hands but again the er doc said it was the methimazole. Has anyone ever had this happen before, I was on it for one year and only off for 3 weeks, before this I never had a problem.

    Thanks

Hello – There is a condition called paresthesia that causes a "pins and needles" type of feeling and is listed as a potential side effect of methimazole. However, it’s definitely best to get a professional opinion on this…hopefully, your doctor will be able to shed some light today.

    Best of luck!
